Cleverly design pruner which does not snag in tree
Cleverly design pruner which does not snag in tree branches like a lot of other similar pruners. Easy to adjust the length to suit the pruning job. Is not too heavy when fully extended. The cutting action is straight forward. Is well made. The cost is higher than other pruners but has better build quality and design advantages. Well worth investing in.

Overall I recommend this product. Although more expensive, the design allows you to reach higher branches than normal extended handle pruners of this type. The height and angle of the blade can be easily adjusted to best address the position of the target branches. The product copes with small to medium size branches but is challenged by anything thicker. One word of caution, beware as the cutting mechanism incorporates a spring which, as I found, when fed through the branches of the tree can become detached and potentially lost.

Great product, especially pruning high up into trees unreachable with ladder and extendable shears. Solid build with very sharp cutters, which should cut through most branches easily. Only extendable cutter which has this maximum height advantage on the market that I could find.

The UP86 tree pruner very much does what it says it will. Its an excellent product for reaching those high pieces of foliage or for reaching out over wide hedges. I have used it on my Ash tree and for high new growth on my Bramley apple tree. Its just a pity that you cannot purchase the sawing attachment in this country.

Wanted a good quality tool, able to cut larger diameter branches, with longest reach. Already have a pair of Fiskars hand loppers, which are superb quality and smooth to use.

Clever strap and chain design for robustness and ease of use. Cutter end folds back for safe storage. Very happy with purchase and cost.

This pruner is made from good quality materials and should last. However, the cutting blades only open and close automatically when it's length is not extended. When extended the blades will close and cut, but the release mechanism spring is not strong enough to open the blade again. I am forced to retract the pole to normal length, in order for the blade to open again and make another cut. Frustrating!!

Very technical & lightweight tool which surprised me as to how practical and capable it was. It cut both vertical and horizontal branches at great distances. Cutting back an overgrown conifer, it was able to cut up to 40mm. Gets into tight spaces much easier than a standard lopper. Easily worth the money.

The tool is brilliant, but be aware you cannot buy the saw attachment for this tree lopper in this country.
I tried everywhere to buy one.
I contacted Fiskars direct to find out how to get hold of the saw attachment and was told " Look online, we do not sell the saw attachment in England "
When I again asked if they could supply details of where I could purchase the saw attachment all that I was told was "Look online"
You are not told by anyone when purchasing the Fiskars tree pruner that you can not buy the saw attachment in England.
Fiskars should make this information known to all before they purchase the Fiskar UP86 tree pruner because had I known that I could not get my hands on the saw attachment I would have looked for a different tree pruner.
That's the reason it doesn't get 5 stars from me.
Bob.

I was rather sceptical about the ease of cutting, being there is no lever. However I was very surprised at how easy it is to cut. 25mm is like cutting butter. 32mm is a little more difficult no where near as hard as lever devices. The ability to extend the pruner from 2,4 to 4.0 metres is fantastic as is the adjustable angel of cut. It is a lot lighter than other traditional tree loppers, my father is 85 & he found it very light & easy to use. (That's his birthday present sorted).
Build quality seems to be very good when compared to a similar model from a competitor. I have already done a lot of cutting with this tool & the blade shows very little wear & is still razor sharp. Tip: Use Stihl Spray, cleaner and lubricant for cutting attachments. This keeps the blade resin free & lubricated.
Extremely good value for money. I will be using this tool for my work, (Garden & Property Maintenance), & can not recommend this tool highly enough. It is the sort of tool you wish you'd bought years ago.

I have another Fiskars extendable cutter, but this is far superior. I have actually bought two of this product. One for my elderly father, who uses it with my sister to manage his trees, and one for me. My Dad thinks it is the best tool that he has ever used. My sister has used it in his garden to cut branches from densely packed bushes and trees with ease. I used my cutter for the first time on a large laurel hedge. I love the fact that you can angle the head. I was able to cut a piece of hedge behind my garage that i have not been able to reach before. The tool is sturdy, but is also easy to use fully extended. The blades cut by you sliding the plastic handle up or down. Much easier than my old cutter which involved a length of string! I haven't used it on thicker branches yet, but will by the end of the year. The only thing that i think might improve it, would be to have a cover for the cutting head for storage.

Not cheap but very effective.

We have a couple of plum trees that have become too big. In the past I have struggled with step ladders and various pruning tools, but the Bypass cutter eliminated the need for any of that. I have also used those trimmers that have external pulley arrangements, but they snag in branches and are nothing like as convenient to use.

For some tough high cuts we needed two people to operate the device ( we are a retired couple, past our best), but mostly it was a one person operation.

The pruner appears very well constructed and, hopefully, will last a long time.

If you can afford it, and don't want to climb ladders, possibly the best tool for the job.

This is a fantastic product. The reach is super but does require some strength to manoeuvre and guide it, even though the product is very light.
Cutting action is precise and will handle even the thickest branches with minimum effort thanks to the geared action.
Quality seems good but only time will tell. But it will require regular oiling and not to be left outside.
The height adjustment is very easy to use, but the head adjustment requires a bit of persuasion
The main difficulty I had was getting the head in the right position. Unlike the my former hook-over model its not very forgiving so does require a bit of patients especially on full reach. Also the action requires a long movement which could be a problem if you have particularly short arms. So unless you need to cut a lot of very high branches you may want to think about this, because this is good value, but not cheap.

So brilliant I don't know where to begin. Our house is covered to the gutters with a climbing rose. Its growth rate is startling and its thorns/prickles are weapons grade.
Regular pruning is essential, requiring long ladders, strong gloves and courage bordering on downright stupidity.
Now... no problem. Stand on terra firma, extend to required length, position cutters, pull lightly and - step smartly back as the murderous frond plummets down.
Slides through woody stems up to about 15mm as if they were not there; its maximum range is 4m plus your own height.
Light (for its length) and being Fiskars (I've been using the same pair of their nail scissors for 40+ years) well made and built to last.
A great piece of kit.

It is fantastic to be able to reach so far when you've got a large garden with lots of trees that need the occasional trim and you don't want to keep getting people in to do it. As my husband says, they are a precision tool and need looking after, in other words to make sure they work at their best you need to clean them after use- but well worth doing that as they work brilliantly.
